In response to a query from Walter Knecht of PICKLEBALLBC, the Tournament Chairman of Pickleball Canada, Chuck MacDonald, responded as follows:
"It became evident to us in fall that there were difficulties in the development and distribution of “new” approved balls for indoor play. I considered that with Canada being in the midst of the indoor season it would have a major impact upon the indoor play for our members and suitable replacements products were difficult to find in the USA never mind Canada. The intent was to allow our winter season to complete, permit industry and the supply chain to catch up with requirements of the sport. Because our insurance requires that players use approved equipment we could have inadvertently invalidated insurance for clubs and players who simply wanted to play and didn’t have access to suitable replacements for balls. The same balls that they they had used for the previous several years. Therefore, I made a recommendation to the Board that we take the step to extend the approval date for the subject balls until 1 June 2018 to run through the 2017/18 indoor season. This proposal was adopted. It doesn’t negate the requirement to condition the balls." Walter Knecht has added: "The PCO site says approved till June 30, 2018 - I assume a typo in Chuck's response. When you read the information online it also says 'outdoor' ball approvals have been extended as well to the end of June. Find the PCO online information here." Comments are closed.
